Asthma
Asthma is a condition where your airways become irritated and inflamed. They then become narrower and produce extra mucus making it difficult for air to flow into and out of the lungs. Symptoms and signs can include breathlessness, tightness of chest and being short of breath. This can become a problem during sports participation as you can suffer from an asthma attack where your airways close up leaving only a tight hole if any.
Heart Attack
A heart attack is simply caused by vital nutrients and blood carrying oxygen not being able to flow to the heart and around the body. This is the usually the result of coronary artery disease. From this, the heart can go into spasms. The result of this is that of the heart rate is decreasing and the heart beat becoming irregular. From this your body can shut down. During sports participation, your heart needs to pump more blood than is usually needed and can trigger a heart attack simply because the blood can get clogged up.
Viral Infection
This is caused by a the presence of a virus in the body. One of the main symptoms of a viral infection is a high temperature however, symptoms can vary from the type of virus and what system in the body it affects. After invading a human, viruses use the organisms cells to reproduce themselves. every type of human cell is susceptible to a virus and these can range from a common cold to influenza. More serious viral infections can put a stop to your sports participation as they are usually very contagious and need to be dealt with.
Blood Pressure
Blood pressure is defined as the amount of pressure put on the walls of the arteries as the blood moves through them. High blood pressure can lead to major health issues such as developing cardiovascular disease, such as a stroke. If you have high blood pressure, your heart has to work harder to pump blood around your body and therefore can weaken it. The increased pressure can also damage the walls of your arteries which can cause a blockage or your arteries to split.
Low blood pressure can become a problem when it only decreases in certain situations such as when you stand up. This means that something is preventing your blood pressure from being controlled properly. For example, a sudden drop in blood pressure can cause the blood supply to the brain to be interrupted and can then lead to faintness or dizziness. When participating in sports, this could be a problem as you could faint.
